Reduce Stress & Pain with Shiatsu Therapy in Fresno, CA

Shiatsu Back TherapyBalance your mind, body and spirit by coming to Body Health & Wellness Center; where a unique and effective massage treatment known as Shiatsu Therapy is offered in Fresno, CA.

Shiatsu Therapy is a manual technique known as “One Point” or “Finger Pressure,” which is applied through specific points on the body known as tsubos, which eliminate fatigue and stimulate the body’s self-curative abilities. Proper application is applied by use of the thumb, fingers or palms.

The Shiatsu Therapist looks at the flow of energy in the meridians lines, in which imbalances in energy can occur. Meridian lines are defined as channels of living magnetic energy in the body. These channels are associated with the functioning of the internal organs. If the energy in a meridian is in excess, the meridian is Jitstu, and techniques are used to sedate (get rid of or calm) the excess energy in the meridian. If the meridian is depleted of energy, the meridian is Kyo, and techniques are used to tonify (bring energy to or strengthen) the depleted energy in the meridian. The flow of energy in the meridians, can affect the function of the organs, the nervous system and the muscle-skeletal system of the body.

Shiatsu can stimulate the body’s immune system, regulate blood circulation and relieve muscular contraction. “Shiatsu emphasizes correction and maintenance of bone structure, joints, tendons, muscles and meridian lines, whose malfunctioning distort the body’s energy and autonomic nervous system causing disease.” - Source: Zen Shiatsu by Shizuto Masunaga with Wataru Ohashi.

How Shiatsu Works

Trigger Point TherapyBy using the thumb, fingers, or palms, pressure is applied to certain points on the body. It’s similar to acupuncture, but without the needles. A Shiatsu treatment focuses on correcting and maintaining the health of bone structures, joints, tendons, muscles, and meridian lines. When these parts aren’t functioning well, they distort the body’s energy and autonomic nervous system causing disease, pain, and emotional imbalance. The Certified Massage Therapist applies Shiatsu to stimulate the body’s immune system, regulate blood flow, and relieve muscular tension. The benefits of a Shiatsu  include:

  • Eliminating Fatigue & Overall Weakness
  • Improving Blood Circulation
  • Reducing Stress, as well as Anxiety & Depression
  • Relieving Migraines & Headaches
  • Healing for Sprains & Other Injuries
  • Relieving Pain for Arthritis Sufferers
  • Reducing Problems with Stiff Neck, Shoulders & Back
  • Minimizing Coughs, Colds & Respiratory Problems
  • Helping Those Dealing with Insomnia

This therapy is applied over the client’s clothing. Please wear something comfortable to your appointment, such as a t-shirt and shorts, or sweatpants.

The History of the Shiatsu Massage

The Shiatsu technique has its roots in Chinese medicine, but was adopted by the Japanese in the 6th century. It changed over the centuries, but it uses the same points along the body’s meridians as acupressure and acupuncture. The goal, as it was in centuries past, is to help those receiving treatment to release blocked qi. With Shiatsu, we eliminate energy imbalances within the organ systems. This clears the pathway for positive energy flow. Different pressure points relate to various organs throughout the body. The practice focuses on all of these pressure points.
